Water supplied to consumers has actually been through a few processing
and treatment stages before being distributed. Rain that falls into
the dams or rivers flows to the water intake where it will be pumped
to the water treatment plant. Here, the raw water is treated by going
through the process of aeration, coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation,
filtration, disinfection and conditioning. The treated water that is
already safe for drinking will then be pumped to the balancing reservoirs
before being distributed to service reservoirs. In cases where the service
reservoirs are high or long distance, booster pumping system is used
to pump the water to the respective service reservoirs. Water will then
be supplied to consumers. The water pressure however differs depending
on the height of the premises, distance from the service reservoirs
and also the pipe size. SYABAS currently supplies treated water over to 7 million consumers in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya. The total number of active consumers is 1,500,925 out which 214,287 are from industrial consumers, 1,273,264 are from residential consumers, while the remaining 13,374 consist of other consumers.
